Tuesday 10 February - New York.....The trip uo to Academy records at its new location on West 18th Street was unfruitful. Not a lot worth buying, and its most classical and pre-classical CDs now, very little viyl. Not the Aladdins Cave it once was. Visited Other Music and at a new store - In Living Stereo on 2 Great Jones Street I picked up singles by Gene Vincent, Bobby Marshan, The Hollywood Flames and The Emotions.
Bitter cold on the streets, snow, slippery ice and wind. Played a show at Bar Chord. Well attended, good crowd, a bit on the noisy side. Photos taken with the bar staff and owners, Jonny and Christy.
Out in Williamsburg at Skinny Dennis's Honk Tonk we caught the first set of Nick Casey, a four piece band. A bit New York Velvets vibe, a bit Americana. One guy is called Nick, the other guy is call Casey. What the drummer and bass player are called remains a mystery. They said they would send me a CD for a spin on my radio show. Then we had to split , collect our gear and go to our gig in 68 Jay, meeting Kevin Lynch along the way. He got up as well to blow a bit of harmonica on a song. All good fun. After a few hours sleep, and some emails and a video chat with Asa we got cultured up with a visit to the MET followed by a drink at Milano's and food at Punjabi on Houston.
Jacks friend Hubby was on the Letterman Show and a get together was organized to watch the broadcast in a bar, but I nodded off and missed it.
